![]() ![]() ![]() Upon completing the fellowship, the fellow will be prepared to assume the role of a general surgical pathologist or a women’s health sub-specialty consultant in academic or private practice. The diversity and number of the specimens enables the fellow to have comprehensive training in general surgical pathology, or if chosen, women’s health pathology (gynecologic and breast pathology emphasis). The fellows will be expected to teach surgical pathology residents and University of Utah medical students. Research activities are available and encouraged. We have a great variety of interesting and challenging cases on a daily basis, including breast, gynecologic, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, pulmonary, head and neck, skin, and soft tissue/bone pathology. These one-year programs draw surgical resections and biopsies from the University of Utah Hospital and Clinics, Huntsman Cancer Hospital, and consultation cases submitted to ARUP Laboratories, a national reference laboratory. There are three positions available each academic year in general surgical pathology, and one position available in surgical pathology - women’s health track. The fellowship is based at the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah. It is structured to prepare the fellows for independent practice in an academic or private setting. This fellowship is designed to give the fellow broad experience at the junior faculty level, including sign-out of surgical pathology cases. The Department of Pathology at the University of Utah and ARUP Laboratories offers a one-year fellowship program in general surgical pathology, as well as one-year fellowship program in surgical pathology - women’s health track.
